About

Hi, and welcome to my site. I’m a photographer, writer, musician, and teacher living in Portland, Oregon. I also do live music promotion and production. Many of the photos were taken in my years as a touring musician.

Photography. I’m the lead photographer for Soul’d Out Productions, one of Portland’s most successful and distinctive concert promoters, producing shows by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, De La Soul, Travis Scott, Bunny Wailer, Erykah Badu, Solange, and many, many others.

I’m the house photographer for the Jack London Revue, one of Portland’s hottest jazz clubs. You can see my printed work featured on the walls. Jack London Revue: First Chorus, a book of photos from the club is on sale at the box office.

I’ve traveled in nearly fifty countries and forty-five of the fifty states. Much of my early work was done during that time. I completed the Studio Lighting course at the Newspace Center for Photography in Portland.

Writing. I’m a freelance writer for Dope Magazine. I’ve published interviews with reggae legends Jimmy Cliff and Bunny Wailer among others. I’ve also written profile of Grammy Award winning country singer Kacey Musgraves, and features on the history of marijuana. I’m the marketing director for the above-mentioned Jack London and a former copywriter for the now defunct Cody’s Books in Berkeley, California.

Music. I spent thirty-seven years as a professional and semi-professional musician, songwriter, and arranger. I’ve played nearly two thousand shows and recorded on dozens of albums. I’m best known for my fifteen years with California progressive reggae band Groundation.

Teaching. I’m a teaching artist at PHAME Academy, a performing arts school for developmentally-disabled adults. I teach courses in photography, music appreciation, iPad songwriting and performance, and percussion.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Chinese history from the University of California.
